Hi, I'm Mr. Turel, an educator in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Mucahit Ismail Turel has been an influential figure in education since beginning his teaching career in 2006. He started as an engineering and computer science teacher at Harmony Science Academy in El Paso, later serving as the school's high school counselor and alumni relations coordinator. In 2015, he assumed the roles of director of college counseling and alumni relations for the Harmony El Paso district. Between 2016 and 2018, he served as the Director of High School Academics for the district. He then returned to Harmony Science Academy - El Paso as Principal from 2018 to 2021. Currently, he is the Assistant Area Superintendent of College and Career for Harmony Public Schools North Texas. In addition, he serves as an AP Scoring Leader and PASL Rater. From 2009 to 2013, he also mentored and coached robotics teams.
Mr. Turel holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering from the Gebze Institute of Technology and a Master of Education Degree as an Instructional Specialist from the University of Texas at El Paso. He completed the National Principal Academy Fellowship Program at the Relay Graduate School of Education. His numerous certifications include a School Principal and Superintendent Certificate from Texas, an AEL Certificate from Region 19 ESC, a College Counseling Certificate from UC San Diego, a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard, and a Character Education Development Certificate from the University of San Diego.
Throughout his career, Mr. Turel has mentored and sponsored the school's UIL computer science team, as well as numerous science fair projects. His mentorship has led to awards for projects at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair and ISEF. He has also served as a judge at several science fair competitions over the years.
Mr. Turel received the Adult Mentor/Coach Award in the Tri-State FLL Robotics Tournament in 2011, the NCWIT Educator Award in 2012, and the WeTeach_CS Change Maker Award in 2017. He founded the Harmony El Paso Alumni Association and Harmony Miners Organization and serves as an advisor for the 80/20 Education initiative.
